Welcome to the Jungle Gym.

The Jungle Gym is a cabin space designed as a break from the monotony of working and studying from home. Located in a suburban backyard in Ottawa, Ontario, the cabin stands 3.8 metres tall, offers a floor area of 7.4 square metres, sleeps one, and is insulated to four seasons. Here are some things you can do in the Jungle Gym:

  • CLIMB during all four seasons on the 3.3 metre climbing wall

  • SWING on the interior monkey bars

  • WATCH movies and PLAY console games on the 1.5-metre-wide projector screen

  • NAP on the foldable sofa-bed

  • READ at the built-in bookshelf desk

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, sedentarism has increased, the range of leisure activities has decreased, and homes do double duty as working and living spaces. The Jungle Gym addresses these issues by making exercise, nature, and play a core focus of the design. The monkey bars and indoor climbing wall encourage an active lifestyle, the plant wall brings nature into the space, and the projector and projector screen allow for an enhanced movie watching and gaming experience. The large windows provide a view of the outdoors and bring natural light into the room.
